Why We Help

Children with differing abilities are one of the most marginalized and excluded groups of children experiencing widespread violations of their rights

Globally, approximately 93 million children live with disabilities. ¹

Too often, children with disabilities, or who we like to say have "differing abilitites", are defined or judged by what they lack rather than what they have. Their exclusion and invisibility serves to render them uniquely vulnerable, denying them respect for their dignity, their individuality, even their right to life itself. ¹

Discrimination arises not as a result of the intrinsic nature of children’s differing ability, but rather, as a consequence of lack of understanding and knowledge of its causes and implications, fear of difference, fear of contagion, or negative religious or cultural views.

Poverty, social isolation, humanitarian emergencies, lack of services, and hostile or inaccessible environments even further compound the discrimination and marginalization experienced by children.

Project Lolo believes that no child should ever be denied their right to life, healthcare, education, or dignity because of their differing abilities.  We aim to help children gain equal standing in life, by means of access to orthopedic medical care, orthopedic devices and educational materials, so they can lead limitless lives.
